Cabinet Secretary for Lands, Alice Wahome, has issued a stern warning that any loopholes leading to revenue loss within land registries must be sealed and responsible officers held accountable.

Her remarks came during an impromptu visit to the Kiambu and Ruiru Lands Registries, where she assessed their condition and service delivery.

Wahome emphasized that Kiambu, due to its strategic proximity to the capital, should be a national leader in revenue collection.

“I have made it clear any loopholes that enable the loss of public funds must be sealed — accountability is not optional,” she stated. “Every coin we safeguard strengthens our ability to deliver better, faster, and more transparent services to Kenyans.”

The CS highlighted Kiambu’s pioneering role in the government’s nationwide digitization of land registries. She stressed that digitization is a crucial step beyond just technology.

“It is about eliminating manual inefficiencies, curbing fraud, securing land records, and enhancing access and transparency for all citizens,” CS explained.

She added that the ministry’s reforms are aimed at rebuilding public trust, asserting, “As we move, we must walk with the people, not ahead of them.”

Wahome also declared that missing files must become a relic of the past in all registries, with comprehensive data records maintained for easy tracing. To encourage improved performance, she announced the establishment of a recognition award for the best land registry to ensure better and more efficient service delivery.

The CS reiterated that her visit was part of ongoing efforts to curb land fraud and ensure Kenyans receive efficient, transparent, and people-centered services.

“We are working diligently to streamline land transactions and strengthen accountability at all levels, improving service delivery isn’t just a goal, it is a commitment to the Kenyan people, She said”

Wahome concluded by affirming that Kenyans deserve access to safe and secure land services. “Today’s visit is a reminder that we are watching, we are listening, and we are taking action,” she stated.
